I explore the idea of perception through metaphors and depictions of physical senses. I illustrate development of perception through paradigm shifting moments, life lessons, and revelations. At first, my series revolved around specific instances where perception is questioned & defined such as time, truth & death. As the series grew, it became clear that a progression through these ideas would better illustrate my concept. I incorporate physical manifestations of the seven senses, in the form of eyes, ears, hands, a heart & brain, to highlight how our bodies allow us to be grounded in reality & experience the world around us.
I work in surrealist landscapes, abstraction and geometric patterns to create intricate pieces. Motifs in every piece, such as ribbons, serve to illustrate interconnectedness and subliminal energies that tie us together and influence how we feel. I use pink water to represent the flow of life. I also incorporate aspects of nature into each piece such as mushrooms, pomegranate seeds, hanging mangoes, rock formations, and waterfalls. My use of bright exaggerated colors, radiating lines, and repetitive patterns all function as reminders of the unbelievable beauty of the natural world.
