Each piece created in the series is symbolic of trauma in my life that has fueled the person I have come to be today. I investigated dark themes of mental health, exploring its physical and psychological effects. Inspiration for these works were driven by my depression and anxieties, as the characters represented in the series are broken into exaggerated parts of my emotions. I express my journey of life in these pieces, venting my inner thoughts of helplessness and tragedy.
The work in slide six represents the loss of innocence and youth I experienced at a young age. The character is exposed and being backed into a fireplace surrounded by thorned flowers, no matter what direction she takes--pain is inflicted. These works represent me, all the characters are divided into different sections of my emotions in an exaggerated form to help me cope. This series is an outlet, expressing themes of stress, anxiety, depressions, and frustration that I have felt throughout my coming of age. The images presented take the viewer through different tipping points in the characters lives that closely relate to my life and experiences.
