In this series I am exploring the tension in my relationship between the future and the past. The future brings change and new experiences that can be scary, and I often find myself wanting to avoid moving on from the comfort the past brings. In my works, I used a dragon to represent the past, and a wolf to represent the future. With these animals, I wanted to show the battle I feel in my life when having to go through big changes. I wanted to show how despite the comfort the past brings, it’s not good to be stuck in it. People need to continue on through life.
At the start of my series, I focused on the enticing feeling of the past, representing that with a dragon, and contrasted it with the future, represented as a wolf. My use of red and blue relates to my feelings about the past and future, blue represents peace/serenity, and red represents danger and uncertainty. I enjoy how the contrast between red and blue made the pieces visually interesting. I use bold colors, texture, and layering to give the pieces a feeling of randomness, to show how life is out of my control. My series shows my feelings towards the future while creating expressive works.
