In my series, I’m exploring the nostalgia and imagination of childhood, inviting viewers to engage with these scenes in a curious and youthful manner. Childhood is a time when every experience is filled with the promise of adventure and whimsy. Most of these works have hidden puzzles, evoking a sense of playfulness while delving into the power of imagination.

I employed several methods to create these hidden puzzles within my works, drawing inspiration from classic children’s books. Hidden puzzle books such as I Spy and Where’s Waldo? inspired me to hide small animals within the works for viewers to closely search and find. Later in my series, I began to explore different types of puzzles, like mazes and a forensic-like scene for viewers to solve, and other games and riddles I enjoyed as a child. I utilized the properties of acrylic paint and gouache to layer vibrant colors and maintain careful detail. As such, this detail allows me to craft my puzzles intricately and push the viewer to analyze every brush stroke for a hint. My series establishes a warm and lively atmosphere and invites the viewer to fully immerse themselves within the series, eager to unlock the next clue.
