How can I express my negative emotions and how they affect me through color and abstraction? This series explores the challenging emotions I have experienced that are often expressed in private or not at all. This build up of negative emotions has often held me back socially and academically. As one of many people that bottle up their emotions, I have also learned to let go. Through this series I want to show that these emotions are okay to have and release to the world publicly.Â
My pieces are highly influenced by Cubism. The characteristics of the style allows me to exaggerate facial features to get the emotion expressed clearly, which could be harder to read in a more realistic style. The anonymity of each face invites the viewer to relate to their own experiences. The color chosen in each piece is often associated with the emotions displayed, such as using green to represent envy.
