In this series, I imagine what it’s like to work a corporate job. Getting a new job seems intimidating, especially working for a corporation where you don't get to see the person/boss you’re working for often. Throughout the series, we follow a newly hired employee. To me, working a corporate job looks like it’s unimaginative and robot-like compared to other jobs. There is nothing creative about working a corporate job if you’re typing on a computer and doing paperwork for 8 hours with a 30-minute lunch break.
My series starts with a guy walking into a dystopian office building that he recently got hired for. This office is undesirable, but he needs to get paid to live, so he continues to work even though he’s burnt out. He eventually gets paid and knows it’s worth it. I portray the feeling of tiredness and despair in the office by making it mostly grayscale and adding a heavy vignette to all the pieces in the office setting. I hope that when people view my work, they can see the satirical element of it. Using humor forces the viewer to consider how brutal and inhumane this lifestyle may feel.
