In this series, I expressed people's different beliefs about the afterlife. This topic has interested me for a long time. Though I enjoy thinking about it, it's also a bit frightening to contemplate death. And, nobody can be confirmed right or wrong about the afterlife, so beliefs can continue to be explored.
I knew I wanted to do surrealism. The artwork I had seen for it was so dream-like and interesting, the process was quick so I didn't think too much about ideas and drew them as I was thinking. I would ask people what they felt their beliefs would be like instead of what they imagined of it to avoid simplistic thoughts. In the end, many of my works were different from what I imagined since I continued to add things as I drew on the final paper. I started off with basic lines for the artwork but found the use of stippling superior, when I thought of it as a mindfulness exercise, sketching a base with a pencil or in general wasn't a big part of the process, I used the pen straight on to final paper, and it sat right with me, because it continued to help my surrealist route, and not being too literal with where I was going.
