My series of artwork is about my interpretation of how life on Earth may look like when humans are long gone. I show traces of human civilization such as eroded buildings, “fossilized” human objects, and a recurring yellow sky. Some things may not be noticeable at first glance, but the longer you look the more you may find, almost like you are a scientist studying this “new” planet. I have also made each animal have four nostrils instead of the usual two. This signifies the low oxygen levels of the atmosphere caused by humans. The bird-like creatures have also been degraded due to the atmosphere, being flightless and even pathetic-looking.
I first started out with the intent of making significantly evolved creatures in an environment that has obvious relics of humanity. However, the more I got into the work the more I realized that the human traces should be less obvious, creating sort of a “treasure hunt” for the viewer, where they find the human impact. I have also used natural materials for some pieces, including clay, sand, and glass I have found on beaches. However, synthetic materials like glue for water and random objects or toys to imprint into the clay were used as well.
