I’ve chosen to explore what can be found when the sea and sky collide. My decision to develop this idea stems from a fear that holds me back from expressing and understanding my true identity. Allowing myself to channel my feelings into art creates a safe place for me to explore, completely free of judgement. As I combined elements of the sea and sky, I realized I was drawn to these realms because they always represented freedom to me. My work follows my persona on a journey of self identity and expression in a world of endless possibilities.
The creatures and natural occurrences surround and change the environment through form and color as my character learns more about herself. The moon is a symbol of my inner self as well as a connection between the sea and sky. It’s worn on the back of my persona until she faces herself and understands and accepts that it is a part of her. Digital media allows me to create immersive worlds despite the unrealisticness of the concept. It aids the idea that even things that seem like they shouldn’t exist can in some way. At the end, I am beyond my fears and able to explore this new world on my own, completely free and one with sea and sky.
