My sustained investigation revolves around the question of what the world would look like and how it could function after the breakdown of modern technological systems. I wanted to explore the issue of waste and climate change. I hypothesized an apocalyptic scenario where humans have completely disappeared off the face of the earth and left various animals and organisms to survive and deal with the mess and problems we’ve created.
While making my work, I took inspiration from apocalyptic/dystopian films and novels, as well as nature and what was going on in the real world. I planned my series to be sequenced chronologically where earlier works would be more saturated with color and later works would be darker. As my series progressed, I shifted my focus from animals and landscapes to a more personal level by using scenery of important places I remember from my childhood. By targeting these locations, they serve as a direct reminder for myself of the necessary concerns for environmental conservation.
