Chevron Murry Jacobs Jr. and Percy Abram Jr. Scholarship Due December 11
Each year, the San Ramon BEN team awards 7 scholarships to deserving high school seniors in the Bay Area community who demonstrate scholastic achievement, community involvement and leadership skills.
These scholarships are awarded in monetary increments of $5,000 and $2,000 and are named to honor the legacy of two distinguished African American Chevron employees, Murry Jacobs Jr. and Percy Abram Jr.
Steps to apply:
Provide basic personal information (name, email address, phone number, etc.) using this application. The application also includes space to highlight up to 3 extracurricular and/or community service activities in which the student has participated.
RSVP to attend the essay writing workshop in application question #22. Monday, November 13, 2023, at 6:00pm PST where several of our Black Employee Network members will provide coaching on how to write a strong essay. Request their school counselor send a copy of the student’s school transcript to SRBENScholarship@Chevron.com.
Select just 1 of the 4 essay topics in application Section III and write a 500-to-750-word essay. The essay should be sent attached to an email sent to SRBENScholarship@Chevron.com.
It is strongly recommended to complete steps 1-3 immediately and do not wait until completion of essay to submit the application.
Submission of applications, essays and transcripts are due no later than 6:00pm PST, Monday, December 11, 2023.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Berkeley Bay Area Alumnae Scholarship Due March 8
The Berkeley Bay Area Alumnae Chapter (BBAAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, is a private community service sorority of African American, college educated women. BBAAC is offering college scholarships to high school seniors of African/African American descent in Alameda County. Although the emphasis is placed on recipients attending four-year institutions, applications will be accepted from students who plan to attend a community college with the intention to transfer to a four-year institution. The amount of the award will vary according to available funding. The award is intended to supplement other financial resources.
Awards may range according to available funds and will typically be from $500-$3,000.

The Environmental Leader Scholarship is intended to foster environmental stewardship and the leadership of students who are taking action to encourage environmental awareness within their school and/or in the community.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must be enrolled at Castro Valley High School, Castro Valley Virtual Academy, Redwood High School, or OneSchool Global (Castro Valley location) as a high school senior with an expected graduation date of May 2024, or be a homeschooled high school senior with an expected graduation date of May 2024; or live within CVSan boundaries (provide copy of Alameda County Industries (ACI) bill from within the last six months or other proof of residency in the CVSan boundaries).
No immediate family members of CVSan staff or Board members are eligible to apply.
Selected applicants must plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire 2024/2025 academic year.
Applications must be received by CVSan no later than 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, no exceptions.

PG&E Scholarships: Due February 25th
Each of the ERG and ENG scholarships below are supported in part by PG&E and through fundraising and contributions made by members of these employee groups and fellow coworkers. Each group awards scholarships to students who have shown commitment to specific communities or causes.
Applicants for all the scholarships listed below must:
Be a high school senior or graduate, have received GED certification or be an undergraduate or postsecondary undergraduate student. Veterans and adults returning to school are encouraged to apply.
Have a primary residence that is a PG&E customer in California at the time of application.
Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited college or university in the Fall.

UCSF Black Caucus Dr. Vivian T. Thomas Scholarship - Due February 28, 2023
These scholarships are given based on a demonstrated financial need and in recognition of academic and civic achievements during the student's high school years. This is a one-year non-renewable award; a minimum of $500.
Eligibility Requirements
Academic good standing (Unweighted GPA minimum of 2.5)
African American Senior, full-time status in an accredited high school
Lives in San Francisco or Alameda county
Demonstrated Financial Need
Declared intention to enroll in Four-year accredited college, Two-year community college, or accredited business, trade, or vocational school
Submission of the completed online application package including:
Student transcript w/ GPA
Essay*
Letter of recommendation
* Please submit an essay on "How My Continued Education will Benefit My Community" or "How My Continued Education will Transform My Life" (300-650 words).
The Links Incorporated 2023 Celebration of Excellence Scholarship - $2,000 - Due March 1
The Oakland Bay Area Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, is a national volunteer service organization of concerned and committed women, primarily of African ancestry, who work to enhance the quality of life in our larger communities. The organization strives to contribute to the formulation of a positive, productive, and culturally diverse community through our focus on education, cultural enrichment, health and wellness, and civic involvement. We especially encourage students who self-identify as Black or African American to apply.

The eligibility requirements are:
High school senior, graduating in May/June 2022
A minimum cumulative (not weighted) GPA of 3.4
Demonstrated active participation in school
Demonstrated active participation in community service
Demonstrated leadership skills
Evidence of commitment to attend and graduate from a four-year college or university
Applications from relatives of members of The Links, Incorporated will not be considered.
DEADLINE: The online scholarship application and all scholarship materials must be received by 11:59p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
Celebration of Excellence Ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2022, in the afternoon.
All awardees must attend this event, which we anticipate will be virtual. If the student awardee cannot attend, then a family member must attend or the scholarship award will be forfeited.

Cliff Burton Memorial Scholarship - Up to $4,000 - For a CVHS graduating senior who demonstrates a commitment to pursue a career in music and has financial need. Application includes essay and list of 2 references.
Douglas K. Rogers Memorial Scholarship - $1,000 - Open to graduating seniors at CVHS pursuing a post-high school degree who can show how the monetary award will support his or her interest in teaching and/ or creating art. Special consideration will be shown to applicants who demonstrate a clear interest in teaching English, pursuing creative writing, or making pottery. Application includes personal statement, example of creative writing or visual art, essay explaining the applicant’s passion and experience with teaching, creative writing, and/or visual arts.
Lindsay McDonald Scholarship - $3,190 - Open to graduating seniors at CVHS with GPA 3.0 or above, demonstrating financial need; priority to students who help others. Application includes personal statement, 2 letters of recommendation, and list of activities.

Black Futures Matter $5,000 Scholarship
The Carter Family is awarding $10,000 in college scholarships. Two (2) recipients will receive $5,000 each. This scholarship is open to current high school and college students. Must be enrolled in or accepted into a college or university. Eligible applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Deadline to submit your application is April 30, 2021. Winners will be announced on or around June 30, 2021.
