Questions regarding homework
Q1: Do you assign mandatory homework?
A1: Yes, each week students in my class are required to complete ONE retell page. They should read a book, record it in their reading log and retell the story to an adult using the retell page guidelines. Homework packets are also shared, but the entire packet is not required to complete. I will also share what math lessons we are doing for the week and you can have your child complete optional math homework. Though I will not look over them, if you want me to put a happy face to show that I "check" the work so that your child will take the math homework seriously, please staple or clip it with the homework packet and place it in the students' blue Jensen homework folders.
Q2: Will you be giving book bags?
A2: Because our district no longer requires Kindergarten and first grade teachers to do the benchmark reading assessment, the students' reading levels are not determined in levels A-Z. Because of this change, the previous books we used to send home do not align with our assessments and I will not be sending book bags home.
