We have listed suggested activities to work on so that your child can maintain what they have been learning in class. We have also listed some educational TV shows. Students should not be only watching TV, but honestly we all need a break sometimes. Please note, these items are suggestions only and will not be returned for a grade.
Read daily- Use good habits for hard words
-stop at the first sign of trouble
-try something (get a running start, look at the picture, look at each part of the word, try it 2 ways)
-triple check! (Does it look right? Does it sound right? Does it make sense?)
Journal- Write a journal daily. Focus on printing neatly, punctuation, uppercase letter in the correct places. Have students to make up stories that “could have happened.” You may need to make up one together to give them an idea. In class we brainstorm ideas before we write.
Math- each day- practice counting by 2, 5, 10 up to 120. Do this out loud as well as writing. Practice addition and subtraction within regrouping. To practice addition and subtraction use beans or pasta for object counting and write the equations. For example 10+6=16 or 20-15=5. Make sure your child does not just give you the answer but they can show you using the objects or by drawing why the answer is correct. Practice telling time, cook together and talk about measurement.
Science- Our units are Rocks and Minerals, Balance and Motion, and Insects and Plants.
Social studies- Brain Pop and Brain Pop, Jr. have some great videos. Scholastic News will also be used for Social Studies.
