Level II
English Language Development Level Three (ELD 3) is the highest level of ELD classes offered here at Kennedy. The students that are typically offered this class are non-native English speakers who have tested between Levels 3 - 5 for the California English Language Development Test (CELDT), or between for the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).
These students are beginning to tailor their English Language skills to meet the communication and learning demands of their other content area classes with increasing accuracy and fewer errors. They are also able to identify and understand concrete details and major abstract concepts during unmodified instruction. They can even summarise most concrete details and abstract concepts. Their oral and written production has expanded to sentences, paragraphs, original statements and questions, or expanded to more elaborate discourse and fully-developed paragraphs and compositions.
In ELD II, students work on Dr. Kate Kinsella's 'English 3D' series. This curriculum focuses on building academic language for college and career readiness. The curriculum allows students to make real-life connections to relevant topics in their lives. There are also consistent routines for academic vocabulary, discussion, and writing, and opportunities for student discourse.
