Dear parents and families,
Teachers had a productive staff and grade-level meetings this week, and I'm excited to start this new journey of online learning! This page contains important information about the logistics of how distance learning is going to look for Room 48 students, so please be sure to read through this entirely! (I apologize in advance for the length!).
Before I dive into the logistical items, let me throw out a disclaimer: as we know, this is an unprecedented, unstable situation. In many ways, we are working with a moving target, so things may change as we move forward. With that being said, here's our current plan:
1. Student independence
I will be posting lessons and activities for students to complete each week. I will post these assignments on Google Classroom each week, typically by 9 AM of each Monday. The goal is for students to be independent in getting the assignments, asking questions, and completing their work. Students will have until Friday of each week to complete/submit their work. Google Classroom will be the primary platform where I assign and collect work, so please have your child get into the habit of checking Google Classroom each day. For now, to assist with the transition from traditional to online teaching, I am relying on parents to help me communicate expectations with students.

2. Weekly Assignments
Every Monday, I will post assignments for the week on Google Classroom. Students can work on these assignments at their own pace, as long as they finish them by Friday. Some assignments will be turned in on Google Classroom or Seesaw, while other assignments are meant to be completed for learning's sake.
3. Daily Schedule
For the most part, online learning is much more flexible than traditional classroom learning. Here is what I would like to try out in terms of a daily schedule:
Office Hours: 8:00-9:00 a.m. and 1:00-2:00 PM, Monday-Friday
Office hours are a time when I will be at my computer, responding to parent emails and/or student questions. This is a time where I will be available to respond. Outside of these hours, I may not be able to respond right away.
Digital Classroom Meetings:
Starting this Wednesday (3/25), and on a weekly basis, students will join me in a classroom meeting (using Google Hangouts Meet) by clicking the link provided on Google Classroom. These class meetings will be a chance for us to connect as a whole class, as well as a way for me to provide instruction to all of the students at once.
Digital Small Group Meetings: 2:00PM-2:45PM as scheduled:
Beginning next Monday, March 30, I am hoping to have small group meetings on a scheduled basis with students, once a week. These small groups will allow me to check in with students about their learning and progress. These meetings will also take place on Google Hangouts Meet, through a link provided on Google Classroom. Meeting times for each group will remain the same for each week. As with everything, things are always in flux and can change. Here is my proposed schedule:

4. Other odds and ends
-In case you hadn't heard, CAASPP testing is cancelled for this year. I hope this helps to alleviate any stress you/your child may have regarding testing.
-Below, I wanted to share with you some tips that you may find helpful for creating structures and schedules for this new learning environment:
