About Us

What is the Wellness Center?

We are a grant-funded program through the Santa Clara County Office of Education and we are here on site to promote Mental Health and Wellness for all Hyde Students.  Our services range from brief self-regulation visits, to referrals to Community Partners, to direct services with our Wellness Center Specialist.  We also work to bring Wellness Education to all students and families at Hyde.  The Wellness Center is staffed by Donna Campbell (Wellness Center Liaison) and Hir Patel, AMFT (Mental Health Wellness Specialist).

Where is the Wellness Center and when is it open?

The Wellness Center, also known as the Zen Den, is located in Room A.  We are open Monday through Friday from 7:30-4:00.

When can a student use the Wellness Center?

Students are welcome to visit the Zen Den before and after school and during break and lunch.  In addition, when a student is in class and is struggling with emotional regulation, or is having a hard day in general, a teacher can give them a pass to the Zen Den.  The student then comes to us for a 10-15 minute visit.  During this time, Wellness Center staff will help them choose from a variety of activities to help them learn to self-regulate their emotions.  After 10-15 minutes, we sign a pass and send them back to class ready to focus on learning.

What is an example scenario of when a student might need self-regulation?

A student is unable to focus on learning because they are:

What do self-regulation activities look like?

We invite you to stop by any time to tour the Zen Den!  We have self-regulation stations that include connecting with Wellness Center Staff, breathing exercises, fidgets, puzzles, books, journaling, art, snacks, and so much more.

What if a student needs additional support beyond a 10-15 minute visit?

We will work with existing site procedures for mental health referrals to help coordinate appropriate care for the student.  This may look like connecting a student to a club, joining group therapy, individual therapy, or a referral to an outside agency/community resources.

I have more questions. Who should I contact?

Please feel free to come to the Zen Den in person, or reach out via email.  Our goal is to foster a culture of collaboration to ensure that the Wellness Center meets the needs of all the students.  Feedback, input, and suggestions are not only welcome, they are crucial to the continued success of the program.
