First, we will need to decide what Band Instrument you would like to play.
1. Does anyone in your family play an instrument?
2. Does your family have an instrument you could play?
3. What do you and your parents/guardians think is the best instrument for you?
3. Don't necessarily play an instrument because your friend chooses it.
4. Best Fit - Physical characteristics:
Mouth the right shape - (Flute -Can you blow across the mouthpiece? Brass - Can you buzz your lips well? (See Video above)
Finger Size - (Clarinet - Can your fingers cover the holes?
(Flute/Clarinet - Do you have fast, strong fingers?)
(Saxophone - Are my hands big enough to play the keys?)
Arms Long Enough - (Trombone - Can you reach all of the notes?)
Listening Skills - (Brass instruments - Can you hear and match pitches well?)
Body Size - Tuba & Percussion - Are you big enough to hold and carry your instrument?
