My name is Kate Schleyer and I have been a school social worker at Bower Elementary School since 2000. My room is number 113 across from the LLC, feel free to stop by anytime. I can also be reached at 393-9413 or at Katherine.Schleyer@cusd200.org
I received my Bachelor in Social Work at Western Illinois University, my Master in Social Work at the Jane Addams School of Social Work at UIC and completed Loyola University's Certificate of Advanced Practice in Schools program. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
I work with all students and families at Bower by providing direct services to students and their families including casework, group counseling, individual counseling, classroom presentations as well as providing crisis intervention, consultation and making referrals to community agencies. I am part of the assessment process for special education students as well as often providing direct and indirect services to those students. I also consult with teachers and administrators and frequently participate on teams within the schools.
As you can see in my job, I wear many hats but my main responsibility is to support students’ emotional and social development. Please feel free contact me if you or your child need any support, services or have questions.
In my free time, I enjoy my time with my husband, crazy dog, step children and our adorable & adventurous grandkids. Books, movies, art, music, gardening and cooking are favorite activities in our home.
