Hello Canalino Families! 

My name is Shanna Hargett, also known as "Ms. Shanna". I have been the School Counselor for our campus for the last 16 years, and have enjoyed every minute of it!  I received my Bachelor of Art Degree in Psychology in 2004 at Sonoma State University and my Master of Social Work Degree and Pupil Personnel Services Credential at California State University, Sacramento in 2008. I live in Ventura with my husband Logan, and our 8 year old son Landon, who attends 3rd grade DLI at Canalino. We love traveling, going to the beach, riding our bikes and hiking. I am so grateful to have been a part of this community for all these years and look forward to working with you.

Mi nombre es Shanna Hargett, también conocida como "Sra. Shanna". ¡He sido el consejero escolar de nuestro campus durante los últimos 16 años y he disfrutado cada minuto! Recibí mi Licenciatura en Psicología en 2004 en la Universidad Estatal de Sonoma y mi Maestría en Trabajo Social y Credencial de Servicios de Personal Estudiantil en la Universidad Estatal de California, Sacramento en 2008. Vivo en Ventura con mi esposo Logan y nuestro hijo de 8 años. hijo Landon, quien asiste a DLI 3rd grade en Canalino. Nos encanta viajar, ir a la playa, andar en bicicleta y caminar. Estoy muy agradecida de haber sido parte de esta comunidad durante todos estos años y espero trabajar con usted.

Hello Canalino Families,

I am so grateful to be one of your school counselors! This will be my 7th year serving this amazing community. I received my bachelors degree in Anthropology from UCSB in 2010 and my Masters in School Counseling and P.P.S. Credential from the University of La Verne in 2021. I also have a certification in Child Welfare and Attendance. I live in Ventura with my husband, Michael, our 8 year old twins, Hadley and William who attend DLI 3rd Grade at Canalino, and our sweet four year old, Lucy. We love being outside and going to the Zoo or Natural History Museum. I truly love what I do and am eager to support our school's families and students in any way I can!

¡Estoy muy agradecida de ser una de sus consejeras escolares! Este será mi siete año sirviendo a esta increíble comunidad. Recibí mi licenciatura en Antropología de UCSB en 2010 y mi Maestría en Consejería Escolar y P.P.S. Credencial de la Universidad de La Verne en 2021. Vivo en Ventura con mi esposo, Michael, nuestros gemelos de cinco años, Hadley y William, que asisten a DLI 3rd grado en Canalino, y nuestra dulce hija de quatro años, Lucy. Nos encanta estar al aire libre e ir al Zoológico o al Museo de Historia Natural. ¡Realmente amo lo que hago y estoy ansioso por apoyar a las familias y estudiantes de nuestra escuela en todo lo que pueda!

Hello, I'm Katie Lewis and I'm very excited to support the students and families at Canalino. This is my 8th year working as a school psychologist. I graduated for CSU Channel Islands with my Bachelor's in History in 2010 and worked for the Ventura County Assessor's office for a few years before returning to school. I graduated from CSU Northridge in 2018 with a Master of Science degree and P.P.S. credential in School Psychology. I have two dogs and love Disney, superheroes, and reading fantasy books.  It is a pleasure to continue serving the Carpinteria community!

Hola, soy Katie Lewis y estoy muy emocionada de apoyar a los estudiantes y familias de Canalino y Carpinteria Family School. Este es mi ocho año trabajando como psicóloga escolar. Me gradué de CSU Channel Islands con mi Licenciatura en Historia en 2010 y trabajé para la oficina del Tasador del Condado de Ventura durante algunos años antes de regresar a la escuela. Me gradué de CSU Northridge en 2018 con una Maestría en Ciencias y una credencial de P.P.S. en Psicología Escolar. Tengo dos perros y me encanta Disney, los superhéroes y leer libros de fantasía. ¡Es un placer continuar sirviendo a la comunidad de Carpinteria!

Confidentiality & School Counseling Services

School counseling provides students with a safe and supportive space to talk about their feelings, concerns, relationships, and challenges. Information shared during counseling is kept confidential and private to the greatest extent possible.

There are important limits to confidentiality. Counselors are required to share information if there is a concern about a student’s safety, suspected abuse or neglect, or when disclosure is otherwise required by law.

When appropriate, counselors may communicate with parents/guardians or other school staff to help support a student’s well-being and success. Every effort is made to respect the student’s privacy while ensuring they have the support they need.

The goal of confidentiality is to build trust, encourage open communication, and provide students with a safe place to seek support.
