The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. STEM Education Challenge helps students become curious, ask questions, and make connections to their world. It is the backdrop for students to understand how our world works. Students who participate in STEM gain a greater appreciation for Science and its impact on our daily life. The STEM Education Challenge was started at DIS in 2011.  That year we started with two challenges and now we have several STEM challenges each year. These challenges are student driven. Without the enthusiastic interest of our STEMtastic students we wouldn't be able to offer these experiences and activities. 

Participation is limited for each challenge to around 40 students.  Each challenge will last around 6 weeks of the quarter. During that time we will highlight a different area of a STEM field in a particular theme.  Our goal is to provide memorable and educational hands-on activities and experiences each week.  Students will be notified of their opportunity to participate in each challenge based on their interest and permission slip turn in date.  All challenge are held Thursdays after school unit 5p.m.. There will also be a small fee to cover the supplies for each challenge.
