The University
Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) was initially constituted as the University of Cochin on 10th July 1971. The University of Cochin was re-constituted as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986. CUSAT has now grown as an excellent center for higher education and research achieving good ranks in the University category of prestigious ranking agencies. The academic programmes of the university are all highly demanding with students from all over the country and abroad. The university is functioning with its motto 'May learning illuminate us both the teacher and the taught (tejasvi navadhitamastu)'.

The Department
The Department of Applied Chemistry was established in 1976 to play an important role in the further development of the industrial belt in the Greater Cochin area. The Department has now grown and emerged as one of best centers in Chemistry in the state of Kerala. The Department aims to transform itself into a center of excellence both in academic and research fields. Research and development activities for the sake of industries are also conceived as a major role of the department. The department was selected for the FIST programme of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and Special Assistance Programme (SAP) of University Grants Commission. The faculty members of the department are also undertaking a number of projects and schemes sponsored by funding agencies like UGC, CSIR, DST, DST, KSCSTE and DRDO. The department is producing an impressive number of publications in highly reputed journals every year. Postgraduates from the department have found gainful employment in prestigious MNCs and R&D institutions, while several of them have pursued a career in research.

The Programme
This International Workshop on "Computational Modeling in Chemistry, Biology and Materials - Making it Mainstream" aims to give an overview of different aspects of Computational Modeling and its application in various interdisciplinary sciences. The programme aims to popularize the use of computation in different aspects of research. Further, it will provide an excellent training for young faculty, researchers and students in the fundamentals of computational modeling. The programme also includes tutorial training sessions using different programme packages like ADF, AutoDock Vina, Quantum ESPRESSO etc.
