Curating for Culture is an open collective driven towards enabling a wide range of cultural preservation processes. Issues of fair representation and marginalization of microhistories drive us, whether it is the missing representation of minority groups in the national narrative or the lack of documentation of everyday histories in popular and iconic propaganda. Community engagement and creative collaborations rooted in ethical practices of care and critical interpretation are pivotal to our efforts.
Curating for Culture started its work in 2020, focusing on the following themes, but not limited to:
South Asia/India in the archives
Looking beyond the institutional narratives
Empowering the local or the indigenous voices
A day in the life of an archivist or a curator
Since then, the projects and programs have taken their own turns, and we have followed the trail. Sometimes these thematics have guided the pedagogy, sometimes new insights have been formed!
...these are the courses taught, and the knowledge exchanged, which informs our practice...
We take up consultation projects with an intention to collaborate, and build a longer relationship...
