I  am interested in taking new students for coming June/July 2026 session who are motivated to carry out research on Climate Change implications specially related to Glacier-Climate modeling (Himalayan glaciers response to climate forcing), Geo-morphodynamics/Geo-hazards (to comprehend geomorphic process and its impact on landscape evolution), Geo-informatics (Advanced Remote Sensing, GIS & Geospatial techniques) & the Human-Environmental Sustainability in Emerging Landscapes.

Present Advisees

•  PhD Students: Ishtiaq Ahmed (UGC NET-JRF), Rinku Kumar (UGC NET-JRF), Devilal (UGC NET-JRF), Madhu Mehta (UGC NET-JRF):  2 Scholars Awarded with Young Geographer (II) and Promising Geographer Awards ; 1 Scholar Awarded with IUAC, New Delhi Research Support Grant; 2 Scholars selected as Assistant Professors in the Punjab Higher Education Department 

• Master (M.Sc.*/M.A.^) Students: Ongoing/passout Master's students awarded with Best Paper Presentation at an International Conference at Delhi University, Delhi, and the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, & many pursue higher research in a leading university; some are placed in the Central or State Educational Department.

• Abera Abiyo Dofee (International Student, ICSSR) completed his PhD within the stipulated period of 3.5 years and is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography at Wachemo University, Hossana, Ethiopia

• Nyombe Richard Loboso (From South Sudan, as Co-Guide) Dissertation Title "The impact of Sudd wetland on the Hydro-Climatic conditions of South Sudan", M.Tech Students (2017-2019) Department of Water Resources Development and Management, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee – 247667 (Uttarakhand), India.

Research Interest: 

• Should have a common research interest area i.e. Climate Change Implications and Societal Resilience, Disaster Risk, Vulnerability, and Adaptation and Human-Environmental Sustainability in Emerging Landscapes.

• Should have at-least basic knowledge of Geo-informatics (Remote sensing/GIS tool/software and preferably programming like R, Python)

• Basic knowledge of (Geo-)Statistics (Time series trend analysis, probability distributions, prediction and forecasting techniques etc.)

• Must be a disciplined, highly motivated, hard working, and willing to work in high altitude and cold climate.

How to prepare for PhD under my supervision (JRF, NET, and CUPB candidates):

1. Prepare yourself with at-least advanced training on Geo-informatics (MS/ or PG diploma course) or Geo-Chronology (OSL/Dendro)

2. Prepare a proposal/synopsis of common research interest as mentioned above.

3. Proposal/Synopsis should bear the following-

• Statement of the problem

• Brief national or international literature review

• Research Objectives & Questions 

• Database and Methods

• Probable outcomes

• Any publications to justify the title or objectives
