Research Themes in Mind

Collaboration and Funding Agency:

My group is always open for collaboration, please find my Research keywords, Research interest and Publications for common interest. We need funding to support motivated students and interdisciplinary research.

Students Guidance:

I am interested in taking new students who are motivated to carry out research on Glacier-Climate modeling (Himalayan glaciers response to climate forcing), Geo-morphodynamics/Geo-hazards (to comprehend geomorphic process and its impact on landscape evolution), Geo-informatics (Advanced Remote Sensing, GIS & Geospatial techniques), Geochronology (Reconstruct long term paleo-climate using OSL/CRN/Tree rings).

Present Advisees

  • PhD Students: Ishtiaq Ahmed (UGC NET-JRF), Rinku Kumar (UGC NET-JRF), Abera Abiyo Dofee (International Student, ICSSR), Devilal (UGC NET-JRF)

  • Master (M.Sc.*/M.A.^) Students: (for 2020-2021 session) Chakadola Sunani^, Bharati Sharma*, Mamtha H Sanal*, Ashmita Mukherjee^, Yashmeet Kaur^

  • Master (M.Sc.*/M.A.^) Students: (for 2021-2022 session) Roshanlal^, Ganesh Raja Pingali^, Danish Kabir^, RashiD Ali^, Ajmal Bazil P*, Manali Maity*

Erstwhile Advisees

  • Nyombe Richard Loboso (From South Sudan, as Co-Guide) Dissertation Title "The impact of Sudd wetland on the Hydro-Climatic conditions of South Sudan", M.Tech Students (2017-2019) Department of Water Resources Development and Management, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee – 247667 (Uttarakhand), India.

For PhD studentships:

  • Right now our lab have few PhD positions open. Students possessing CSIR-JRF , UGC-JRF or JRF by other organizations (ICAR, RGNF, Maulana Azad etc) are welcome to contact me. For more details, please visit to this site http://www.cup.edu.in/index_home.php.

Research Interest:

  • Should have a common research interest area i.e. Glaciology, Applied Geomorphology, Climate Change and Paleo-climate studies and Geo-hazards.

  • Should have at-least basic knowledge of Geo-informatics (Remote sensing/GIS tool/software and preferably programming like R, Python)

  • Basic knowledge of (Geo-)Statistics (Time series trend analysis, probability distributions, prediction and forecasting techniques etc.)

  • Must be a disciplined, highly motivated, hard working, and willing to work in high altitude and cold climate.

How to prepare for PhD under my supervision (JRF, NET, and CUPB candidates):

1. Prepare yourself with at-least advanced training on Geo-informatics (MS/ or PG diploma course) or Geo-Chronology (OSL/Dendro)

2. Prepare a proposal/synopsis of common research interest as mentioned above.

3. Proposal/Synopsis should bear the following-

  • Statement of the problem

  • Brief national or international literature review

  • Research Objectives & Questions

  • Database and Methods

  • Probable outcomes

  • Any publications to justify the title or objectives
