Year by Year Planner

Freshman Year - 9th Grade

  • Familiarize yourself with the admission requirements of colleges, universities, and other programs that you may be interested in attending after high school.

  • Challenge yourself by taking advanced courses in high school, such as AP or college level courses.

  • Don't put off required courses, such as PE 1, Computer Apps, or Health 1.

  • Get involved with clubs, sports, and extracurricular activities that you're interested in.

  • Volunteer within the Culver community.

  • Take advantage of admissions officers that visit CHS - ask them questions, gather more information, etc.

  • If you haven't already, start saving money for college!

Sophomore Year - 10th Grade

  • Take the PSAT's, offered at Culver High School every fall. Fee waivers are available.

  • Try to visit local community colleges, universities, or work sites that you are interested in.

  • Stay involved - potential employers and admissions counselors look for well rounded employees and students.

  • Request information from colleges that interest you.

  • Meet with your School Counselor to discuss admissions requirements for different programs you're interested in.

Junior Year - 11th Grade

  • Attend college fairs and speak with admissions counselors while you're there.

  • If you haven't already, take the PSAT in the fall.

  • Research scholarship opportunities.

  • Find out more information regarding FAFSA (Oregon Resident/US Citizen) or ORSAA (Oregon Resident/Undocumented Students).

  • Review requirements for merit based scholarships at the school's you're interested in apply to.

  • Consider taking a leadership role in the clubs, sports, or activities that you're involved in.

  • Register for the SAT and/or ACT exams by the spring of your Junior year. Check with your School Counselor regarding fee waiver availability.

Senior Year - 12th Grade

  • Meet with your School Counselor to make sure you're on track to graduate and that upon graduation you will have met the admissions requirements for the school(s) that you want to attend.

  • Keep it up in your clubs, sports, and extracurricular activities!

  • Check the website of the school(s) you're applying to and determine application deadlines.

  • Apply to College! It may be helpful to have a copy of your transcript (unofficial is fine) with you while you fill out applications.

  • Send official SAT and/or ACT scores to the school(s) you applied to after you submit your application.

  • Complete the FAFSA in October.
