Behind the shed, there is a quiet space that children always seem to make into a home corner. We are hoping that this space continues to provide a quiet corner for a small group of children or individual.
We were asked to produce a living wall, so have started this one, using pallets and milk carton tops. These can be decorated with permanent pens and filled with other items that may interest the children such as stones, water and small toys.
We have connected a piece of net to the fence that can be used as a weaving area for items children have collected, such as leaves, feathers, sticks or pieces of ribbon and string.
This area can be used for large construction that is suitable for the outdoors, such a lego, waffles, wooden blocks. A range of large construction materials will need to be collected before the term starts in order to provide choice and different construction opportunities.
This table can be used to leave mark making materials such as chalks, whiteboards, pens, pencils, paper, crayons. It also has seating for a group of children to sit down together if they choose.
This table can be used for more messy play such as clay, playdough, painting, junk making.
This ship made from pallets was inspired by the P1's last year who used to enjoy imaginary play on a ship. It also gives the children an opportunity to climb. Once we observe the children playing we can change the theme to correspond with their interests.
This has been placed on a pallet stack which is accessible from both sides.
Trays of sand can be played with on the pallet stack. If trays don't work we there is room to add a large sand tray on the pallet stack.
Large pieces of wood are stacked here to encourage playing with large sized loose parts. Last year they were used as slides, roofs and walls. We could introduce tools, such as hammers and nails.
Leaving a variety of loose play materials that children may play with in a variety of ways. Green crates are used as loose play building materials, blue crates are used to store toys in the construction area.
Pipes are stacked at the side for use in a variety of ways including for making water courses and car slides. These were popular last year with the older children who spent a long time creating complex pipe systems for water and cars.
We have left a few den structures in place as last year these were played in by the children in a variety of ways.
Children have really enjoyed playing with the luna loose play equipment and the stepping stones. This has been stored by the fence so it could be easily shared with the rest of the school during playtimes.
