Two PhD students and two faculty members for the University of Bergen Norway are sponsored for the secondments of 1.5 months under the European Commission's funding project Horizon 2020.

3rd Position in "AIEF 1st National AI Competition" at LUMS

Students from the Computer Science department at COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore campus, achieved the 3rd position in the esteemed "AIEF 1st National AI Championship" presented by Soliton Technologies. This competition was hosted at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on July 22, 2023. Their final year project, entitled "Forensic Face Matching at Airports During Passport Control" stood out among a pool of 200 remarkable entries and won Rs. 100000/-. This project is supervised by Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Habib and co-supervised by Dr. Allah Bux Sargana & Mr. Mohsin.

International Exchange Visit in 2023

Dr. Zulfiqar Habib has visited University of Sevilla, Spain for one month as the invited guest researcher under the European Commission's funding project Horizon 2020.

PhD Completion of Dr. Mubbashar Saddique

Dr. Mubbashar Saddique of CS Department has successfully completed his PhD entitled "Robust Video Forgery Detection and Localization using Artificial Intelligence Techniques" on 6-1-2021. He is supervised by Dr. Zulfiqar Habib and Co-Supervised by Dr. Usama Ijaz Bajwa, He was also specially guided by Dr. Muhammad Hussain, Professor at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. During the course of his PhD, he visited Korea University for 6 months with the funding of HEC.

PhD Completion of Dr. Ghulam Gilanie

Dr. Ghulam Gilanie of CS Department has successfully completed his PhD entitled "Automated Detection and Classification of Brain Tumor from MRI Images using Machine Learning Methods" on 30-7-2019. He is supervised by Dr. Usama Ijaz Bajwa and Co-Supervised by Dr. Zulfiqar Habib,

International Exchange Visits in 2019

Two PhD students for University of Bergen Norway and two faculty members for Bournemouth University UK are sponsored in 2019 for the secondments under European Commission's funding project Horizon 2020. Among these,  three have started their secondments of two months to be completed by the end of August. Prof. Dr. Zulfiqar Habib is the Coordinating Principal Investigator, Country representative and PI at CUI (third country partner) of said project.

PhD Completion of Dr. Khurshid Asghar

Dr. Khurshid Asghar of CS Department has successfully completed his PhD entitled "Robust Image Forgery Detection and Localization using Texture Information" on 16-04-2019. He is supervised by Dr. Zulfiqar Habib and Co-Supervised by Dr. Muhammad Hussain, Professor at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. During the course of his PhD, he visited Cardiff University for 6 months with the funding of HEC.

PhD Completion of Dr. Amna Khan

Dr. Amna Khan of CS Department has successfully completed her PhD entitled "A Bezier Curve Based Coverage Path Planning of Non-holonomic Mobile Robots" on 3-10-2018. She is supervised by Dr. Zulfiqar Habib. During the course of her PhD, she visited Korea University for 6 months. Her PhD was funded by HEC under the grant of NRPU.

PhD Completion of Dr. Iram Noreen

Dr. Iram Noreen, the first student of CS Department has successfully complected her PhD on 22-01-2018. All examiners have declared her PASS with excellent remarks. She is supervised by Dr. Zulfiqar Habib and completed her thesis on "Motion planning of car-like mobile robots in cluttered environments" in the record time of 3.5 years. During the course of her PhD, she visited Korea University for 6 months. Her PhD was funded by HEC under the grant of NRPU.

Breakthrough of International Funding Through European Union's H2020-MSCA-RISE-2018

European Union’s Horizon 2020 MSCA-RISE (Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions-Research and Innovation Staff Exchange) has started funding with the kick off meeting on Dec. 18, 2017 for the PDE-GIR project (Jan 2018-Dec 2021) under grant agreement No. 778035. Computer Science Department of CUI Lahore campus is representing Pakistan through Dr. Zulfiqar Habib. CUI is among the consortium of eight partners including an industry and International Universities from UK, Spain, Norway, Lithuania, Pakistan and Malaysia. Said project is in the area of Geometry modelling, Image processing, and shape Reconstruction (GIR). Participation of other members in this 4 years funding project is open for the graduate students and faculty of relevant area or members of VIG-Robotics group.

Short Visits of Graduate Students under JAPAN-ASIA Youth Exchange Program in Science

Center for Research in VIG-Robotics, CUI and Japan Science and Technology (JST) agency have arranged short visits of Japan for two students of VIG-Robotics during Feb., 17-26, 2017 at Kagoshima Japan under under ​JAPAN-ASIA Youth Exchange Program in Science. The case was submitted through In-Charge VIG_Robotics, Dr. Zulfiqar Habib for MS students Mr. M. Awais Shoukat and Mr. Aqib Mumtaz.

PhD Completion of Dr. Allah Bux Sargano

Dr. Allah Bux has completed his PhD in Computer Science under the Faculty Development Program of CIIT Lahore Campus and Lancaster University, UK. The research was jointly supervised by Dr. Plamen Angelov, Professor at Lancaster University and Dr. Zulfiqar Habib, Professor at CIIT, Lahore Campus and successfully completed in three years during 2014-17, the minimum possible duration. Title of the thesis is "Vision-based Human Action Recognition using Machine Learning Techniques".
