Westmont High School ASB, in conjunction with Westmont Wish Boosters, works to reach the physical and emotional needs of students on campus each year throughout Wish Week.
The Winter Wishes Program allows for each student on campus to wish for something that would bring joy to their lives. While some wishes are small, others wish for memorial plaques for deceased relatives, assistance with rent, computers, backpacks, spa days for overworked parents, diapers, a school yearbook, college scholarships, AP Testing, and other similar items.
The Winter Wishes program is 100% self-funded. We have been fundraising to try to grant as many wishes as possible, but are unable to grant them all. With your generous donation toward financial assistance, you will help us reach our goal. We understand you receive many requests each year, but are hopeful you will strongly consider supporting our event!
A Word from the President
My name is Tanya De La Cruz and I am the President for the Westmont Wishes Boosters. My heart is filled with so much gratitude for the work and care our students put into the incredible and heartfelt Westmont Wishes program.
Each year, Westmont students coordinate, plan, and grant small and big wishes to their student community paid for by a fundraiser and donations. The range of wishes varies and each wish means so much to the individual. Some students wish for their AP exam fees to be covered, some a sweater. Other students wish for their parents to receive a night out, or groceries for their family. Last year, thanks to the incredible donations of our Westmont Community, our students were able to grant over 250 small and big wishes. For many years, even through the pandemic in 2020, and in a reformatted finale assembly last winter, this heartfelt event brings our Westmont students, staff, and families together bringing joy and comfort to so many.
Already a huge fan of the work of this program and our students, this event hit home for me 2 years ago. In January of 2021, my father-in-law unexpectedly passed away due to COVID. My husband, Simon (who is also a volunteer JV Football coach at Westmont), my children, and I were incredibly close to him, as he was the glue that held everyone together. Everyone’s biggest cheerleader, this man would give you the shirt off his back, he would make you feel like you’ve known each other for years at first introduction, and once around him, you’d never want to leave. His passing left a huge hole in our lives. In the fall of 2021, my daughter, Danielle, wished for Simon to have the opportunity to have his Dad’s ashes spread near Pebble Beach golf course. Simon and his dad had a date set to play at Pebble Beach together in the Spring of 2021, a dream they had been planning for years. Unfortunately that aspiration never came to fruition. The students chose to grant this wish for Danielle and presented it to Simon in a very emotional reveal at the Westmont Wishes assembly last December. While the students granted a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to honor a great father and grandfather, they actually did so much more. Westmont Wishes and the students gave my family care, empathy, and joy in an achingly difficult time.
Our students need YOU to continue the mission of Westmont Wishes and keep the magic going. We cannot grant wishes without your support and donations. Please consider donating through our school events or our website.
If you are interested in helping with your talent or time, we are always looking for new parents to join us in our mission to provide guidance to the ASB students and safeguard the use of the generous fundraising they receive from the community. Come join us and make a difference!
With gratitude,
Tanya
