About Me

I am working as an assistant professor (currently on study leave) in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Bangladesh. At present, I am pursuing a Master's in Geography and Geospatial Sciences degree at Oregon State University (OSU), USA. I have joined OSU as a graduate teaching and research assistant. As a research assistant, I am actively engaged in a research project aimed at enhancing land cover mapping in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region. Working alongside a dedicated team from the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) Forest Service and ICIMOD (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development), the aim of the project is to investigate and implement strategies that can improve the precision and accuracy of land cover mapping in the Hindu Kush Himalaya region.

My main research interests are in geospatial analysis, remote sensing, urban microclimate, environmental modeling, and earth system processes. I am keen on obtaining geographic, climatic, temporal, and spatial insights through fundamental and applied research, system digitalization, and modeling using a variety of methodologies, such as machine learning and deep learning, in order to improve planning, decision-making, and functioning. I am also interested in studying and evaluating how people use the physical space around them. Finally, the goal is to contribute to the creation of a world in which meticulous spatial allocation of places ensures that civic life remains free of inconveniences.

A list of my research projects is given here. The courses I teach are also listed.

Apart from being a full-time faculty member, I am also a member of the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP), a board member of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Institute of Planners-Chattogram Chapter, and the Research and Publication Secretary of the CUET Planners' Alumni Association (CPAA).

I received the Best Paper Award from the university in October 2020 for one of my research articles published in an international journal. The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University awarded me the Chuck Rosenfeld Muddy Boots Scholarship in May, 2023.
