This year I have had the honor of being Editor-in-Chief of The Tower. This experience has helped deepen my belief of the importance of student journalism and making sure that the art of journalism stays alive.
Journalism is something that gets taken for granted and you won’t realize the effects of missing honest journalism until it’s gone. Universities in particular go through so many changes that every student can’t keep track of all of them. When you have a student newspaper you have a place where you can keep up to date with what is changing at your school that you know about and some changes you may not have known. Being able to provide the public service of journalism is truly an honor, and it is something that is open to everyone.
The Tower has been such an amazing community these past four years that helped me to strengthen my writing and have people who support you and celebrate your milestones for all of your achievements. Coming from across the country I really wanted to find a community and The Tower was one that welcomed me with open arms and helped me grow and succeed here at Catholic. Now, four years later being able to be in charge of the paper is something I am truly honored to do. It is a position that has given me so many more skills that have helped me in many aspects of my life, and given me experiences that I truly will treasure. We still welcome anyone with open arms no matter what your interest are from photography, drawing, poetry, writing, editing or anything in between we welcome new members all the time to join us for our Thursday meetings.
