Take another leap into the world of Brunope with The Journey of Vranear Kanoo. Explore his origin story as he goes from the son of a farmer to one of the greatest wizards that has ever lived.
There are many tales in Brunope, such as Gruegon the Fruglets and the stories of the Tinki tribe. However, there is one that does not get as much attention as it deserves. That is the Journey of Vranear Kanoo, one of the most courageous and powerful in the Priala Wizard Order. To be a Priala Wizard is to be respected and admired by all. When one turns thirty years of age and shows strange tendencies, that is when you know you might be in the company of one.
Priala Wizards are chosen through trips visited by current Priala wizards to top prospects. One such trip happened to Vranear at a younger age than most. It was a sunny day in Kyring, a rural village near the capital city of Pyron, where the Priala lived. Vranear, who was six years old, was helping his father a farmer, milking the cows and feeding the horses.
Unlike most Priala Wizards, he was not related to the Triad and those who helped them rule over their subjects; he was one of the poor common folk. He and his family lived in a wooden cottage that would often get rained on and only consisted of a few rooms. Nothing at this time was going great for him. His father constantly yelled at him, the cows were not yielding the returns they were supposed to, and they were about to be escorted out by the Triad Guard.

How things can really change in a day. On a sunny day, Vranear and his family were visited by Jiran, one of the most gifted wizards. No one expected him to come by; they were just expecting it to be a normal day as any other would be. As Jiran entered the gate, he was greeted by Vranear’s father, who confronted him with a very aggressive attitude. “Hello, tall hat man. What do you want, I have no time for this wizard nonsense. I have mouths to feed and bills to pay.”
“Hello Mr. Kanoo, How are you on this wonderful day? I hope you are enjoying yourself with your son. I do not mean to trouble you that much, but I was just wondering if I could examine your son. It is possible that he is a Priala Wizard.” Vranear’s father responded, “No, we are good. This family is barely getting by, and we need to use every ounce of time we can get unless you are willing to pay a price.”
Vranear eagerly awaited Jordan's response. He did not know what would happen. To his surprise, Jiran asked to buy the cow Vranear was taking care of at the time. This allowed Jiran to examine Vranear during their conversation afterward.
“Lad, before I take the cow you are working on, I would like to ask a few questions. First of all, have you ever had visions before, and also have strange things happened to you?” At first, he thought this was a strange question to ask someone in his age range. But he answered the question as his father would have liked: “No, I have not, sir. I am a perfectly normal boy. Here’s your cow.”
Jiran then left the boy but could tell from the movement of his eyes that he was lying. Rather than revealing the true nature of what he had done, he said to Vranear, “Young Lad, I will be waiting for you down Rocky Hill Road and will be ready for your Trian initiation.” The middle-aged wizard then proceeded to walk out of the gate, leaving the young Vranear with a burning question within his mind.
Towards the end of the day, he thought about what the wizard had said and gave it some thought. He wondered whether it was worth trying or if he should stay and focus on supporting his parents during this economically hard time for his family. He decided on the former, believing he could do more than his father offered him during a normal day’s work.
So he went down Rocky Hill Road, where he met Jiran. They went on their merry way to the capital of the wizards, Pyron, which was one of the most beautiful and architecturally diverse places the world had ever known. Here, Vranear overcame his confidence issues, learned his magical powers, and became one of the most powerful wizards the world had ever seen.
He overcame doubts placed on him by his father. He did the impossible of common folk by learning to control the elements, how to control things with his hands, and gaining telepathic abilities. Though his power grew, Jiran’s age eventually caught up to him and he died. Things seemed hopeless for a while for Vranear, but one day he’d help another do the same and defy the odds.
