Cebu Technological University (CTU) Tuburan Campus, in partnership with Kalambuan, Inc., a regional professional group specializing in Sustainability and Futures Thinking, and the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), a DOST-backed organization, successfully conducted a two-day workshop on January 27-28, 2025. The event featured the significance of IP protection in the academic and research sectors, held at the Third Floor of the Admin Building.
Engr. Naomi A. Bajao, University Director, IPTBM, presented the fundamentals of intellectual property, and its key components, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. Engr. Bajao highlighted the various benefits of IP protection, introduced participants to available support mechanisms through institutions such as NRCP and IPOPHL (Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines), which provide assistance in navigating the IP application process. In the second part of the program, Prof. Siegfried D. Mendoza, ATBI & IPTBM staff, walked the participants on the strategic value of IP rights in research, business development, economic growth and long-term sustainability.
The activity was attended by faculty members from CTU Main, specifically from the College of Management and Entrepreneurship, as well as faculty from CTU Tuburan representing the College of Engineering (COE), College of Technology – Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (COT - BSHM), Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT), Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), and Industrial Engineering 4th-year students (BSIE).
This initiative is a concerted effort to promote IP awareness within academic and research sectors, and to encourage the participants, enabling them to fully leverage the value of their intellectual property assets.
