Instructions
Choose one of the books from the reading lists that interests you.
Go to your local library, use your SORA account, OR purchase a copy of a book you’d like to read from the links above.
SORA is an e-book reader. Wilcox students have access here.
Read the book and select a project you’d like to complete for each.
Hand in the completed book assignment between August 30th and September 9th to Ms. Scalia in the Library Media Center. No projects will be accepted after September 9th.
Students who turn in assignments by the due date will receive credit in their English class.

Use that book in one of the five following projects.
This opportunity allows you to illustrate your creativity. Do your best. This is also a great assignment activity to add to your student portfolio in the future.
TASK: Create a timeline of important events that took place in the main character’s life. Include pictures or drawings of at least two moments you feel were most important. Write one paragraph (100-200 words) explaining why you felt those two moments were so important in your character’s life. Write a final paragraph explaining how/why the character changed.
Recommended to use poster board of some kind.

Grading Criteria:
Correct MLA citation of the title and author.

Timeline has at least five major events that took place in the main character's life.
Included pictures/drawings for at least two moments on the timeline.
Write two total paragraphs (100-200 words each); one explaining why the illustrated two moments were important, and the other explaining how the character changed.
Project is neatly displayed and does not have grammar or spelling errors.
Projects that meet at least 4 of 5 requirements receive a passing score.
Projects that meet 3 or less of the requirements OR that are not turned in receive failing scores.
The due date is September 9th.
TASK: Create a soundtrack for your book. Soundtrack should include 10 songs from a variety of artists. For each song, write 100-150 words explaining what part of the book the song should play during, and why.

Grading Criteria:

Minimum of 10 songs from at least three different artists.
Create a playlist on YouTube/Sound Cloud/or another music platform so songs can be listened to.
100-150 word explanation of where each song would be played in the story, and why, with textual support.
Project is neatly displayed and does not have grammar or spelling errors. Be sure to use MLA citations for the songs.
Projects that meet at least 4 of 5 requirements receive a passing score.
Projects that meet 3 or less of the requirements OR that are not turned in receive failing scores.
The due date is September 9th.
TASK: Turn the story into a movie script, and identify the actors that will play each character. You will need dialogue and stage directions. It should look like a script - not like the story.

Grading Criteria:

Stage directions are included.
Script is at least 3 pages long and dialogue is included (should have a clear beginning, middle, and end).
Actors have been cast for the characters in the movie script.
Project is neatly displayed and does not have grammar or spelling errors
Projects that meet at least 4 of 5 requirements receive a passing score.
Projects that meet 3 or less of the requirements OR that are not turned in receive failing scores.
The due date is September 9th.
TASK: Write a paper (500 words in Times, New Roman, Size 12 font) that explains how one or more characters from your book display at least three of the six TRAITS That Lead to Success (grading criteria below). You should use quotes with proper MLA citations to support your explanations.
Truth- Practice honesty in your words and your actions, be true to your own self and your community ideals
Respect- Treat others with respect always, despite any and all differences of beliefs, opinions, or actions
Accountability- Realize you can only control your own responses and actions, and be accountable for your own choices, take responsibility for any choices you make and their positive or negative consequences
Integrity- Do the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Teamwork- Work together with your classmates, teachers, and others in a respectful manner.
Safety- Always follow the safety rules, so you may learn and grow in a safe environment

Response is at least one page in length (500 words)
Discusses at least three of the five Traits That Lead to Success
Includes at least three quotes to support points made in paper
Response is written legibly and free of spelling and grammar errors
Projects that meet at least 4 of 5 requirements receive a passing score.
Projects that meet 3 or less of the requirements OR that are not turned in receive failing scores.
The due date is September 9th.
TASK: For the book talk, you need to create a detailed 5 minute or more video of the book you read. You should describe the author and the basic premise of the book. Go into detail about the book and your favorite parts of it. Make the video exciting, fun, suspenseful, and enjoyable to watch. Make sure you introduce yourself. Mention your English teacher and your grade level.
