Welcome!

Hi, I'm Mrs. Strell, the Instructional Leader of Science and Social Studies (K-5) for Region 14.

Feel free to contact me  with questions at cstrell@ctreg14.org and follow our science and social studies lessons on  my Instagram mrsstrellreg14

Science

Science is all around us and it is amazing! Students need to experience Science for themselves.

Our philosophy of teaching science is to use hands-on activities and engage students through cross-curricular projects to build their understanding of science concepts. When students are enthusiastic  and  interested in what they are learning about, they are more likely to internalize what they are learning.

Region 14 collectively  believes that  students learn from trying and experimenting.  When encouraging students to learn, it is beneficial to  guide them through questioning, trying new things, and allowing them to test their ideas/hypotheses.

Using Mystery Science, I will be working with students and teachers  (K-5) to support learning and engage students. We will be working together to learn and grow our thinking about Science.

Social Studies

Social Studies at the elementary level includes history, geography, economics and language arts.

We believe that we can best teach Social Studies across the curriculum by providing opportunities for students to engage in inquiry/seeking answers to questions they have. When students have the chance to  participate in group discussions about major events or issues around the world, they build their collaboration and communication skills. Students thrive when they can use their creativity and critical thinking to explore through project-based learning!
