6-8 Literacy

Woodbury Middle School

Students entering grades 6-8 have received the first novel that they will read in the English Language Arts curriculum. Pre-reading the novel will prepare students for success and result in more robust discussion during class. Students are asked to complete a brief reflection after each reading. The reflection assignment can be found in the Google Classrooms.

Rising 6th, 7th, and 8th graders should complete the Required Summer Reading Assignment posted on the Summer Learning Google Classroom for the grade they will enter this fall. This assignment asks students to write gist statements after reading assigned chapters, identify key words and find synonyms for them, answer open-ended questions, and reflect on their reading experience. This assignment will count as students' first classwork grade for ELA in the fall.
