Common Childhood Illnesses

COVID-19: Students testing positive for Covid-19 should notify their healthcare provider and the school nurse as soon as possible. Presently the MCVSD follows the linked NJDOH Guidelines.

Fever/Flu Like Symptoms: Any student with a temperature of 100° or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, or signs and symptoms of a possible communicable disease, will be sent home. Please keep students home until they remain fever-free for 24 hours without the aid of medication and free of vomiting or diarrhea symptoms for 24 hours prior to returning to school.

Skin Rashes: Students with suspicious skin rashes will be excluded from school pending a physician's medical clearance.

Strep Throat: May return to school after 24 hours of antibiotics have been completed with a physician's medical clearance.

Mononucleosis: Mono symptoms include fever, sore throat with swollen tonsils, fatigue, weakness, and swollen lymph nodes. These symptoms are often mistaken for strep throat or the flu. Students diagnosed with Mono are required to have a physician's medical clearance to return to school with any academic/physical restrictions noted.

Pink Eye/Conjunctivitis: Students who have pink or red eyes with white or yellow discharge often with matted eyelids after sleep and eye pain or redness of the eyelids or skin surrounding the eye may have Purulent Conjunctivitis. They should be excluded from school while symptomatic or until 24 hours after antibiotic treatment. A medical note is required to return to school.
