My name is Mrs. Amanda Evans and this is my 13th year teaching elementary music at Conemaugh Township Elementary School. I received my bachelor and master degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania. While completing the music education programs at IUP, my major instrument was trumpet and my minor instrument was piano.
Now that I am in the classroom, I do not have as much time or as many opportunities to perform in musical ensembles. I do love to play the piano, sing, and demonstrate various musical instruments to my students during class.
Ten fun facts about Mrs. Evans...
If you ask me what my favorite color is, I will say blue. If you have more than 3 seconds to listen to the more accurate answer, you will learn that I love all of the colors of the rainbow. My rainbow themed classroom gives it away :)
I have perfect pitch and can name any single note someone plays on a piano without looking to see which note they played. I can almost always walk over and press the exact same key that someone played for me to guess. This fun ability also makes it very easy for me to quickly write out the notes of a song for a student to learn on an instrument. I have a lot of fun doing that and my students are always excited to learn a song they know and enjoy.
I love hearing student stories and getting random hugs and high fives, truly! Something I love just as much is having established personal space. I firmly respect the personal space of others and kindly ask for the same in return. I frighten easily if I receive a "surprise hug" that I am not ready for.
I have very limited knowledge when it comes to teaching string instruments. If you have a question relating to the guitar, I will gladly ask those questions to my talented guitar-playing husband Mr. Evans. Once I ask Mr. Evans, I will get back to you with an answer if I am able.
I have four fantastic children (Roxas, Chester, Oliver and Averly), three crazy cats (Dinah, Kylo, and Almond) and one outstanding pup (Ghost). I love to make connections with my students through sharing fun stories and photos of the adventures my family has together.
There are few things that brighten my day more than a student showing up at my door with a surprise snack. I love surprises you can eat! If you are celebrating your birthday at school and have extra snacks to pass out to teachers, you know where to find me!
I am a busy person, but please send me your sports/activities calendars so I can come to support you if I am available. Being able to watch my students do the things they are passionate about is one of my favorite parts of being a teacher.
The music classroom is meant to be a safe space for all students past and present. If you need to speak to someone you can trust, I am always here for you and will not judge!
I do have hobbies and interests outside the music world. Some of my favorite hobbies include playing chess, deck-building and playing Magic the Gathering, drawing in my sketchbook, coloring with sparkle gel pens, and taking long naps in the coziest blankets I can find.
I will never say no to an iced caramel latte. If you ever offer me an iced caramel latte and I say no, you can be certain that you are speaking to an impostor.
