Tallinna Mustamäe Humanitaargümnaasium is a state school. It is situated in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. There are 882 students (primary school, secondary school, and high school), and 66 teachers. The school provides three levels of basic education (ages 7-16, grades 1-9) and secondary education (ages 16-18, grades 10-12). The school was one of the first in Estonia to join the program of language immersion (20 years ago) – the studies for Russian-speaking students conducted in Estonian language. In relation to this, to make the work more effective, the subject teachers are constantly searching for various new methods of working with the students, which would allow to organize the lessons in such way that the student would become an active participant of this process. For example, the use of digital educational programs, organizing the integrated lessons/project days/thematic workshops. Every year, both the students of the Pedagogical university and the subject teachers from other schools who are interested in various new methods of working with students take internship positions and different educational courses at the school.
Two foreign languages are taught in our school: The first is English and the second is German, secondary school students can learn foreign languages: English, German and French.
Upper secondary school students have the opportunity to choose courses to acquire driving licenses and the profession of a car mechanic.
We accept children from all backgrounds and religious and ethnic groups. We have pupils with special needs: medical care, support of specialist (psychologist and speech therapist).
In a study we carried out in school 80% of our students declared that they faced difficulties with learning in the last month and 82% of them blame stress for it. Despite all difficulties our students manage to carry out their studies under the guidance of experienced teachers, participating successfully in a variety of competitions in mathematics, foreign languages, arts, biology. Teachers try to involve students in a variety of activities where each child has the opportunity to demonstrate skills and show talents.
Our school development plan places great emphasis on shaping students 'creativity and digital literacy. Students' creativity and digital literacy are developed both in lessons and during projects. Teachers have experience in interdisciplinary integration and project days and weeks. In addition to the classic project day in the classroom, there are also e-project days where students can solve tasks and collaborate using different platforms (Google Sites, Padlet, Kahoot etc). Such project activities develop students' creativity and digital literacy. Our school teachers have a lot of experience in compiling project teaching materials and conducting project days, which are also shared with teachers from other schools. We want to share our experiences with partner schools and learn from them. We can use the knowledge gained to deepen students' digital literacy, which will help them cope better in the digital world.
The school has participated in several ERASMUS + KA2 projects both as a project coordinator and as a partner.

We will also contribute with our experience in carrying on projects about nature i.e. outdoor education which is meant to foster an appreciation of nature, resulting in pro-environmental awareness and action. We are experienced in organizing lessons in the school yard, field trips to natural parks around Tallin, and nature sustainability projects with a view to teach students how to prosper in a sustainable society and how to build a strong relationship with nature
Since the year 2018 school is a base for educational pedagogical courses for teachers and students.
We have participated in the URBACT "On Board" and "Stay Tuned" projects, funded by the European Union Regional Fund and coordinated by the Tallinn Education Department, on early school leaving. We have experience in seeing danger signs and can develop methods to prevent and intervene in dropping out. Our teachers are cooperative as well. This project represents an opportunity which would allow our school to work with other schools in Europe that have the same problems (depression in students, low motivation for learning, etc.).
We can exchange experiences and gain new knowledge to apply to our school. As a result of participating in the project, we can better assess the emotional and physical condition of the students. In the common questionnaire held for this project we identified some problems that our students have, that we can solve with the help of this project.
Merle Pahn will be the person coordinating the team implementing the project works. She is a teacher of Natural science and she has been working in this school for 26 years as a teacher of Biology. Also has supervised students works and participated in a variety of student work competitions. She has been the school coordinator of the team implementing the Erasmus+ KA2 Project „Lifeboats full of hopes”. The school was as a partner on this project. In her absence, the lessons are replaced by other colleagues. If she is to leave the project, we have a reserve list with other teachers willing to participate in the project. Besides the project coordinator, there will also take part an educational technologist- project coverage in the media, a school website and developing students' digital literacy, an English teacher- linguistic support for students, and the head of the school health council- leading student mental health development.
