Kirkeparken Upper Secondary School offers different education programmes within vocational subjects, university-preparatory studies and special needs education. Our students are between 16 and 19 years old, and we have approximately 1000 students and 120 teachers.
Within the university-preparatory studies, we offer programmes that specialize in Music, Dance and Drama, Art, Design and Architecture, Sports and Physical Education as well as General Studies in language, science and social science. In vocational subjects, we offer programmes covering Service and Transport, ICT Service and Restaurant and Food Processing.
For several years, our school has focused on preventing drop-outs. The situation now is that we have a small percentage of drop-outs in our university-preparatory programmes. In our vocational programmes, however, there are still some. Part of our motivation for joining the project is to share experiences on this topic and learn from others.
A bigger issue in our school is student well-being. We see an increasing number of students who deal with a lack of motivation and different mental health issues. We see that this has an influence on their attendance and their achievements in school. We would also like to explore different methods for dealing with this problem.

The responsible with the project in our school will be Anne Kjærnes Bratland. Her position as Head of the Language and Social Science Department includes overseeing all international projects at our school. In addition, we will involve the employees who are already engaged in an existing programme called “MOT” which means “Courage”. Currently, there are three teachers / assistants involved in this programme, and if any of them should leave their post, they will be replaced.
The “MOT”-programme represents a specific experience and expertise that our school and staff can contribute to the project. It is a programme run by a non-governmental organisation that educates groups of students from different schools so that they can promote and actualise the organization’s three main goals and values: The courage to care, the courage to live and courage to say no. It includes student workshops and events that aims to improve social inclusion and strengthen students’ self-esteem and ability to make good choices.
