About

Tau Kappa Epsilon History

Tau Kappa Epsilon was founded on a dark stormy Tuesday night on January 10, 1899 at Weslyan University in Bloomington, Illinois. After the discussion between our founders Joseph Lorenzo Settles, James Carson McNutt, Clarence Arthur Mayer, Owen Ison Truitt, and Charles Roy Atkinson of a new society that regarded men not for wealth, rank or honor, but for personal worth and character. Since then, Tau Kappa Epsilon has helped advance the character and personal development means unlocking the potential for each man to be a great college graduate and productive citizen. A Teke is a man who is trustworthy and lives the values enunciated in our Declaration of Principles, helping each member integrating LOVE, CHARITY, and ESTEEM into his daily life.

Since our Founding in 1899 there have been more than 250,000 collegiate members around the Nation as well as more than 250 Active Chapters. All of these 250 chapters working together as a TKE nations towards the Expectation of Excellence as well as raising more than $4.6 million towards St. Jude since 2009.

Upsilon Tau Chapter History

The Upsilon-Tau Chapter of TKE became a colony on May 5, 2009 and became known as Colony 848. The man who brought TKE over to Stanislaus State was Mark Vega from Cal Poly Pomona and on November 17, 2012 the Upsilon-Tau of TKE was established. TKE at Stan State is recognized on campus for their diversity. The Upsilon-Tau chapter exemplifies TKE's ideals that our men are not chosen based off wealth, rank, or honor, but off of the personal worth and character.

Philanthropy

The primary philanthropy of TKE is St. Jude. Danny Thomas, the founder of St. Jude, was a Teke. In July 2019 TKE agreed to raise $10 Million in 10 years for St. Jude.
