Welcome to the 2025/26 Data Summit: The Business of Caregiving
Caregiving is one of the most vital yet under-examined sectors of our economy. From childcare to eldercare to care for people with disabilities, these services shape labor markets, family decisions, and community wellbeing.
This year's Data Summit invites students to explore the topic of caregiving through hands-on data analysis. You'll work with real-world datasets to uncover trends, identify disparities, and propose data-driven solutions that can make care more equitable, efficient, and accessible.
Two paths to participate:
Explore our suggested topics: Visit the Datasets & Topics page for publicly available datasets and research topics. We provide the general direction, like "exploring wage gaps in caregiving" or "analyzing time-use patterns", and you develop the specific research question and approach.
Design your own project: Have a different angle or datasource on caregiving? We encourage original proposals that use data to address meaningful questions about the care economy.
How to apply:
Submit your application with details on your project proposal using this Google Form by Friday, November 23rd 2025. Your proposal should include a refined research question and identify the data you plan to use to answer it. The more detail you provide, the stronger your proposal.
Timeline: The Data Summit will run from December 2025 through March 2026, with two collaborative work sessions and a final presentation at the WIL Forum, March 6-7, 2026. See the detailed Timeline page for key dates and deliverables.
We will select 10 projects to be funded as WIL Oscar Tracks initiatives.
Selected students will receive a $300 grant upon completion and presentation of their analysis.
Join us in shining a spotlight on the care economy and CSUEB's commitment to addressing real-world economic challenges.
