Foundations of Success courses (General Studies 101A in the fall semester and GS 101B in the spring semester), in which students form lasting connections and friendships and discover their path together. From day one, the GS Foundations of Success courses build students' sense of community and camaraderie which serve as the bedrock for the First-Year Experience at CSUEB.
General Education empowers students to become independent thinkers, able to transform their learning into meaningful action. Cal State East Bay's General Education (GE) Program is designed to educate its students holistically and is central to the university experience. The GE Program provides students with opportunities to explore disciplines and ideas that are new and may change their world perspectives that help define them as educated citizens of the global community.
Mission Statement
The primary mission of the Office of Academic Programs and Services (APS) is to promote and support student academic success by providing leadership, advising, and additional student-focused programs and services. APS maintains a collaborative, campus-wide perspective in its efforts to ensure academic integrity and increase student persistence, retention, and timely progress to degree. APS is committed to supporting all of CSUEB’s students, faculty, staff, and the larger community in the shared mission and vision for student success.
Student Health & Counseling Services is a fully accredited outpatient clinic staffed by Board Certified Physicians, and licensed Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, and Counselors. Student Health & Counseling Services offers basic medical care for most illnesses and injuries and various elective services.
Recreation and Wellness (RAW) Services creates transformative experiences through dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable best-practice approaches. We foster skill development leading to positive behavior change and increased retention through campus partnerships. Our programs integrate physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and environmental elements that enhance the student experience.
Pioneers for H.O.P.E (Helping Our Pioneers Excel) California State University, East Bay's new intervention program will address the Chancellor's food and housing security initiatives to include wide-ranging efforts to immediately serve some of our most-at risk students facing homelessness, food insecurity, and other various crisis situations.
Associated Students Incorporated prioritizes students needs and advocates for them through lobbying. Lobbying is done through non-violent demonstrations at the federal, state system and campus level while ensuring students opinions are objectively heard in every decision affecting them.
The Bay Advisor, a product from the Education Advisory Board (EAB), is a tool for faculty and professional advisors to identify and track students towards a timely graduation. This student advising platform enables advisors to search for an individual student and groups of students, communicate through email, schedule appointments and review student success markers, including missed core major classes, failed coursework, repeated coursework and university requirements. The Bay Advisor provides a versatile platform that drastically reduces the need to pull and analyze individual transcripts. This platform uses academic analytics and real-time academic engagement data to help support advisors work with students.
Financial aid is available in a variety of sources. When you submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or your Dream Application, Cal State East Bay will review your eligibility for the many different types of financial aid awards. We encourage students to apply early because some funding types are limited and are awarded on a first-come-first-served basis. The California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) Student Housing and Residence Life (SHRL) department in conjunction with the mission of the University and the Division of Student Affairs work to engage all residential students in their holistic development and academic success towards retention, graduation, and future endeavors. Student Housing and Residence Life works to sustain this mission by providing student-centered programs, services, and facilities that foster a safe, inclusive and vibrant residential learning community.
Academic Advising and Career Education (AACE) is a one-stop center for both academic advising and career development assistance, and career services. Our counselors guide students in understanding and completing all General Education and graduation requirements in addition to helping them clarify and attain their career goals. AACE is also home to PACE (Program for Accelerated College Education) advising and is happy to open its doors to all eligible East Bay students and qualified alumni. Student Clubs and Organizations help to enhance the quality of student life on campus and provide leadership and engagement opportunities. Student Life and Leadership Programs recognizes and supports over 130 student organizations on the CSUEB Hayward Hills, Concord and Oakland Campuses.
