Research Focus: Current work with Cornell U. sensor data to apply machine learning methods to acoustic data (infra-sound + audible). Past work with the CSU Farm and ERP in S. Africa to detect, track, and monitor large animals in large spaces with sensor fusion (geophone, infrasound, imaging, vibration, and audible acoustic). General goals are to help keep people out of conflict with elephants and to prevent poaching. In north America, goals are to monitor free range cattle and interactions with wildlife (wild horses, elk, wolves, and pronghorn) and to prevent poaching.

Research Focus: To analyze the capabilities of emergent computing architectures, including quantum, neuromorphic, and hybrid systems, and how they can be programmed with a particular focus on how to best prepare students for future careers relying on these technologies - Full Mission Statement. Current focus is demonstration of quantum advantage compared to parallel.

Sensor Fusion and Physics-informed Machine Learning Methods
Research focus: Industry collaboration with Pocket Radar for development of hybrid machine learning, ML + visual cue models, for baseball trajectory tracking combined with physical models and Doppler radar speed measurements. Results showed the advantage of ML for cluttered scenes and multiple foreground/background moving objects, which were combined in a mobile phone + cloud ML model. The general approach taken was physics-inspired along with use of traditional visual queues and motion vector estimation.
Research focus: Completed project with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, active 2016-2020, with goal to use sensor fusion for UAS/UAV operations in urban areas and in controlled airspace to improve situational awareness for safety and security. Research was completed by the ICARUS group. Most aircraft and UAV/UAS are ADS-B compliant (e.g., see flightradar24).
Selected Publications: AIAA SciTech - 2020 paper & presentation, 2019 paper & presentation; IEEE Aerospace - 2021 paper & presentation, 2018 paper & presentation; AUVSI 2018 - paper.
Research focus: Completed project with ADAC at U. of Alaska. Machine learning & sensor fusion methods for low-cost software defined multi-spectral imaging systems for the Arctic Domain. Most marine vessels are AIS compliant (e.g., see marinetraffic).
Selected Publications: AIAA SciTech - 2017 paper & presentation; SPIE - 2016 paper & presentation, 2014 paper & presentation; IEEE Alaska Section - presentation.
