Dr. Hall double majored in Zoology and Spanish and completed his Master's and PhD in Wildlife & Wildlands Conservation. He has been fascinated by animals his entire life. He has studied a variety of wildlife in the western US and Mexico, but since joining the Biology faculty at CSUB, his research has focused on the conservation of threatened and endangered species in the San Joaquin Valley and Central Coast of California.
Rachel's graduate research is trying to understand long-term responses in nesting ecology of the threatened western snowy plover and endangered California least tern to increased rocket launches along the Pacific Coast. After graduation, she plans to become a geospatial analyst and study the movement and distribution of bird populations.
Miguel's graduate research is focused on understanding the effects of artificial light at night on the behaviors of the endangered San Joaquin kit fox in urban and nonurban areas. After grad school, he plans to work for a government agency, like the BLM. He has been honing his biologist skills as an ecological consultant.
Alyse's graduate research is studying the behavioral responses of the endangered San Joaquin kit fox to artificial (manmade) dens in urban and nonurban settings. After graduation, Alyse plans to continue wildlife research as a professional biologist...though Alyse has already been filling such a role for the Endangered Species Recovery Program!
Megan's graduate research is focused on the acoustic ecology of the endangered California least tern, with a focus on their vocal response to rocket launches. She is also the MESA Program Manager at Bakersfield College, where she supports STEM students. After graduation, she plans to pursue a professor appointment where she can continue helping STEM students.
Emily is not only our lab manager but is also studying the relationship between avian species richness and distance to active rocket launch pads. After Emily completes her biology degree, she plans to attend vet school to eventually become a vet at a wildlife rehabilitation center.
Hugo is a biology major studying ascent sonic booms from rocket launches and their spatial overlap with avian species of concern. After graduation, Hugo plans on staying in the lab for graduate research. He hopes to have a career in environmental research.
Vannessa is a biology major working on the urban carnivore project. Vanessa wants to pursue a career where she can work with wildlife at a wildlife rehabilitation/conservation center.
Marcos is a double major, pursuing a BS in biology and a BA in criminal justice. He is working with the MegaDetector AI program in urban carnivores research and has participated in fieldwork for wildlife and rocket launch research.
Caroline is a biology major working on the urban carnivore study. She has experience in small mammal trapping, bird counts, and tree monitoring within the California State Park program. She hopes to become a wildlife biologist or environmental scientist.
Leen is a biology major leading a subproject on the urban carnivore project. Leen's subproject is evaluating the spatiotemporal dynamics of feral cats in the urban environment. She hopes to attend grad school and stay involved in conservation research while teaching high school science!
Breanna is a biology major working on the feral cat subproject of the urban carnivore research. After graduation, Breanna is planning on pursuing a career in veterinary medicine.
Annika is a biology major working on the artificial den project for the endangerd San Joaquin kit fox. She is also helping train a new AI model for carnivores in camera trap images. Anika is planning on a career in veterinary medicine.
