Requirements to apply:
Bachelor's degree
Passed CBEST or meet the basic skills requirement
Passed CSET or meet the subject matter competency requirement
Acceptance to CSUB's multiple subject program
Interview with the BETR Residency team
The BETR residency is a two-semester residency that is an alternative pathway for students seeking a preliminary teaching credential.
How long is the BETR residency?
BETR is a year-long program based on a calendar year; we start in January and we finish in December.
What does the residency model entail?
Residents work with two different Mentor teachers for a semester each (for a total of two semesters).
Residents also receive a single-subject add on authorization in a content area of their choosing.
Residents are in the classroom for three days a week.
Residents have one day of virtual CSUB coursework.
Residents have one day per week to substitute and/or to complete assignments.
How much money does a BETR Resident receive?
BETR Residents receive an annual stipend of $14,000-$18,000!
