Teaching @ CSS (w/ Technology)
Master the essential basics of teaching with Blackboard. This fully online course covers both practical and pedagogical aspects of teaching online. You will learn what it is like to take a Blackboard course as a student, create content for a course as an instructor, submit your own assignments as a student and grade those assignments as an instructor. The course also covers several other academic technologies useful for online instructors. Participants will explore some of the literature around online teaching and learning best practices and issues and the Benedictine values of The College. The course is organized into three, 2-week courses (click on each link in the menu above for a description of each level). You will need to devote 3-6 hours per week to complete each course.
A certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the three courses in the series. Successful completion is defined as including BOTH of the following:
- Achieve a total score of 80% or higher in each 2-week course, and
- Earn a score of 80% or higher on three quizzes.
No pre-requisite course is required. However, participants are expected to have uninterrupted access to a computer and the Internet. Please run a browser check to ensure that your Web browser is supported by Bb and that all the needed plug-ins have been installed on your machine (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Reader, Java, Realplayer). Please visit the supported browsers and operating systems page to verify that your computer and software can support the required activities associated with this course. Note: CSS is a Google college. Using Chrome as your browser simplifies many tasks.
No text is required. The course uses a CSS Blackboard course as its text: Instructor Resource - Teaching with Blackboard. This text has numerous videos and built-in, randomized quizzes to help you master the material.
