Outcome 7 Health Promotion/Illness Prevention: Utilizes community assets, collaborates with community stakeholders to empower communities and populations for long-term health promotion and/or illness and injury prevention, and identifies methods to evaluate effectiveness of interventions.
Outcome Achieved: NUR 388, Population Health
This course allowed me to meet this outcome in that we performed assessment of community needs and the stakeholders involved, and from these assessments were able to then look at health promotion and/or injury and illness prevention within these communities. During this course I was able to do my clinical at NARA (Native American Rehabilitation Association) where I was able to assess needs and participate in finding solutions for our patients. We were working with underserved populations (houseless, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQIA+, etc.) to provide medical care and community resources for them. We were able to work on health promotion and illness prevention through the COVID vaccine clinic that we participated in. We were also able to discuss with them any needs, such as housing or transportation, that they may have needed assistance in finding and were able to provide them with resources that we had available.
