Our vision at the CSIU Transition Academy is to empower and develop independent and self-sufficient individuals and assist them in obtaining competitive employment and becoming productive members of society. The program offers a structured, supportive and stimulating environment in which to grow and mature emotionally, behaviorally, intellectually, and socially. To accomplish this, each child will have a comprehensive educational and therapeutic program, specifically providing students with customized transition plans based on research-based strategies.
The CSIU Transition Academy is an itinerant or supplemental emotional support program housed at the Central Columbia School District within the Academy building. The program offers half day transition services tailored to the needs of students who require emotional support services and half day academics in a virtual setting with goal setting, mentoring and support from staff. The Academy program features two life coaches and an emotional support teacher. Additional related services will be provided by the CSIU as needed.
The CSIU Transition Academy is tailored for students in grades 9-12 with IEPs requiring emotional support, who may be need a community based setting to learn and practice independent living and employment skills. The program will be provided in four stages ranging from employment and interpersonal readiness to work internships in the community for school credits.
