Creating: Using OBS Studio or Zoom with Screen sharing (this is significantly easier) on your laptop, headset, and a graphics tablet (Wacom CTL series)

Editing : Openshot/Shotcut. Video size ~ 1 MB per minute.

Uploading: On Google Drive in your Institute Gsuite account (iitpldap@iitb.ac.in). Share link on course management platform (default : Moodle). Do not upload on Moodle.

Use MS Teams (needs Internet) or Webex (supports phone dial-in). Why MS Teams?

Prep for MS Teams before instructions begin (MS Teams Quick Usage Guide):

  • Sign up for Microsoft-IITB: Signing up for SSO is enough. Follow instructions on CC Website /How-To's/Two Factor Authentication (2FA) for SSO to enable SSO with two-factor authentication. Ensure all students have also signed up.

  • Create an MS Team: Instructor creates an MS Team (the class), adds TAs using IITB LDAP email addresses.

  • Enroll Students: Instructor/TAs enroll registered students using IITB LDAP emails.

  • Everyone Downloads and installs MS Teams PC and Smartphone clients. (Not required, but convenient.)

Prep for Webex before instructions begin:

  • Everyone Downloads and installs Webex Smartphone clients. (Not required, but convenient.)

For starting the live sessions

  • If all students have acceptable network connection, use MS Teams (usage guide)

    • Start meeting at scheduled time (all enrolled will see it on MS teams and can join, no link sharing necessary).

  • Else : use Webex

For conducting labs

Constraint: Students have an i3 processor, 4GB RAM, 120GB hard disk. One time downloads of upto ~2GB.

Prep by instructor and TAs before instructions begin: this is only if you decide to go with docker environment for labs

  • Install the virtual lab environment for his/her lab course (lab dockers).

  • Learn how to work with Docker

  • Ensure planned labs will work within dockers

  • Update instructions to students

During the semester

  • Give lab assignments which work within docker (only if using docker)

  • Instruct TAs to provide first level systems support also to students.

For practice quizzes/assignments


  • Assignment/Quiz facilities of Moodle/Bodhitree/your favourite course management platform (including MS Teams, etc).

  • SAFE quizzes, Bodhitree labs.
