Welcome! :)
Cumberland Elementary School - Counseling
Hello, and welcome to the CES counseling site! My name is Trevor Neukirchen, and I'm the School Counselor here at Cumberland Elementary. My hope is that you will use this site for a wide arrange of things: to contact me, to learn more about what I offer our students, resources, tips, etc. While working with your child is my number one responsibility, I think it's critical that I also work closely with parents to ensure healthy and appropriate social skill development of your child.
I see each homeroom once a week for their weekly guidance lesson. I am using a scientifically supported curriculum called PurposeFull People. This interactive curriculum covers 9 topic areas: Respect, Responsibility, Gratitude, Empathy, Perseverance, Honesty, Cooperation, Courage, Creativity. While this curriculum will be the main center of my lessons, I also will do lessons on other topics such as: Red Ribbon Week (Drug-free topics), Internet Safety, and Sexual Abuse.
I also run small groups on topics such as: Friendships, Anxiety/Worry, Grief/Loss, Emotional Regulation, and many others! Groups are between 5-7 students and last 8 weeks. If you feel your student needs more individual support, I also meet with students on a weekly basis for 8-10 weeks to help them develop coping skills and healthier ways of thinking.
If you ever need to contact me, please feel free to email, call, or stop in! I'm always happy to meet with parents to collaborate!

Birthday buddy!
I'm so lucky that I share my birthday - which happens to be on Valentines Day, with a student!
Whacky Wednesday!
One of our favorite dress up days in Whacky Wednesday. As you can tell, me and this student take this day super seriously!
