Research club is a DGS organization that gives you a platform to research any topic of interest, with the ultimate goals of increasing personal knowledge, advancing your field of research, and potentially presenting your findings. We provide an opportunity to get practical, hands-on experience with research, labs, and honing the experimental method. And we do this all in an encouraging, supportive environment that quenches your curiosity, enriches your mind, and fosters a profound love for science.
This is the perfect club for inventors, aspiring scientists, those with a burning desire to know more about a topic, people passionate about STEM, and more.
watch our club video here!
Research must be safe and approved by club sponsors.
Students can work individually or in small groups.
Many projects are sponsored by colleges like Lewis University and Midwestern. Mentors from these colleges visit occasionally.
you can learn what our current projects are here!
Come to a meeting on Wednesday or Thursday after school in B225!
you can look at all the different projects in person, and our members will be happy to give you an explanation of their research.
you can potentially join one of the already existing projects if you're interested!
or, you can ask our club sponsors if there are any current available projects with no one on them, or any new opportunities from our university sponsors. You might be interested in one of these.
or, you can begin researching whatever your brain desires! talk with our club sponsors about what you want to pursue, and they will help you initiate it and obtain supplies.
Registration!
you have to register to be a part of the club. this is done on the DGS website.
there is a $25 fee
(this covers the cost of disposable research items and transportation to events.)
to register: click this link or go to the DGS website, then go to Activities, then Activities Registration, then Clubs, and find "Research Club."
after you're registered, you'll be added to the club email list. The club sponsors will send important club info through school email, so be sure to always check your email!

afterward, open research time where you can stay as long as needed, with a maximum of 6:30 p.m.
Thursdays (Room B225)

occasionally our university sponsors/mentors come! check your email periodically ;) to stay updated.
club sponsors are always there during research time with their encouragement, advice, research help, valuable input, and more!
in this club, it is your research! you are responsible for your project. so you may use the 2x a week research time as much or as little as you need.
Attendance
remember to sign in for every meeting! there's usually a sign in sheet on the front lab table.
attendance is expected when we have general whole group meetings
the club provides a lot of freedom and independence. you are permitted to use the space and pilot your own research. you may come in as much or as little as you need, based on your project.
in a group, you must be present approx. 80% of the time while you and your group are doing research in order to be considered a project author.
the events and symposiums we attend are privileges. they are a lot of fun! but you can't attend if you don't collect any data or never come to work on your project.
